Bracing yourself for the upcoming school year
Don't let the mayhem of back-to-school season create havoc and stress in your life! Follow these four tips and tricks to keep everything easy and organized as your kids make their way back to school!
Can you believe that summer is already wrapping up and coming to an end?! Neither can we! We want to help you make the process of sending your kids back to school as easy as possible. To help you avoid the potential mayhem that often drags along with back-to-school time, we have come up with four tips and tricks to help make it a breeze.
1) Make a “Command Center”
Create one for each child. A command center includes a hook for their backpack, a calendar, a to-do list for each day of the week, a chore chart (if that’s something you enforce in your home), and school supplies for them to use when they do their homework or when they need to refill their backpack when it runs out.
2) Snack station and lunch chart
Make a box that has all designated “school snacks” in it. Have your children go to the station the evening before school and grab their snacks. The hardest part will be keeping it stocked! If your kids take their own lunch to school, create a section in your refrigerator and cabinets for the foods they like to take. Put all lunch combos’ in there, so they can just grab a few items, combine, and ta-da…lunch is ready!
3) Pick out outfits for the week on Sunday nights
We promise this will save you a lot of stress and fights with you children (let's be real, girls. Your boys probably don’t care.). Make a designated drawer, or section of their closet for school outfits for the week.
4) Create a routine
Create a checklist that tells them everything they need to do before and after school. Make sure that you come home after school and make them get their wiggles out, get a snack, do their homework, pick out lunch and an outfit for the next day and then you are done. After this, they can finish their choirs, or go to their after school activities. When you create this routine, there will be no mystery about what the afternoon holds. Before you know it, you won’t even have to tell them what to do! This will make your life so much easier in the end.
These tips and tricks are ideas that we as a staff have tested and approved of. We hope that they help you easily transition back into the school year.
